Dr. William Howard Bryant, 85, Glasgow, died Monday, May 16, 2005, at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital.  Born June 10, 1919, in Hiseville, Barren County, KY, he was the son of the late Ernest and Banks Howard Bryant.  After graduation from Glasgow High School, he entered the University of Louisville School of Medicine and received his Medical Degree in 1942.

After graduation from medical school, Dr. Bryant entered the armed services.  He served as a physician with the United States Army in the Philippines for 23 months during World War II and achieved the rank of Major.  After his military service, he returned to Glasgow and entered into private medical practice as a surgeon.  He was very instrumental with his uncle, Dr. C. C. Howard, in establishing the Howard Clinic in Glasgow.  During his medical career, he remained dedicated to his love of family practice.  He was also on the staff of the T. J. Samson Community Hospital, where he once served as Chief of Staff.  Dr. Bryant remained active in his practice until his retirement in 1993.

Dr. Bryant was appointed to the first Board of Directors of the Glasgow Electric Plant Board in 1958.  At the first meeting, he was elected Chairman, a position he held continuously for 35 years until his retirement.

Dr. Bryant was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Glasgow.  He served in many capacities, including Elder, Trustee and Chairman of the Board.  He was also active in many civic organizations including serving on the Executive Board of the Boy Scout Council.

Survivors include one daughter, Sybl Fleming of Mt. Sterling; one son, Shawn Bryant, and his wife, Tammy, of Bowling Green; three grandchildren, Dr. Scott Fleming of Lexington, Ginna Dombroskas of Louisville and Blake Fleming with U. S. Navy in Whidbey Island, Washington; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Fleming, Devyn Fleming and Anna Bryant Fleming; one niece, Elaine Wade of Glasgow; one nephew, Dr. Russell Leftwich of Nashville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ratliff Bryant, on March 21, 2005; and his sister, Charlotte Bryant Leftwich, on September 5, 2002.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2005, at the First Christian Church with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Friday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home and after 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church.
