Garry was born September 20, 1946, in Lake Charles, Louisiana to
Joseph A. “Jack” Linscomb and Lillie Mae Demerrett Linscomb
Arledge.
After graduating high school in Sulphur, Louisiana, Garry was drafted
into the United States Army and deployed to Vietnam where he
served with the First Air Cavalry from 1966 to 1968.
Garry received several medals for his service including the Vietnam
Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam
Campaign Medal, Sharpshooter, Bronze Star Medal, National Defense
Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Marksman Expert, Air Medal
and of course the Purple Heart.
Garry also worked as a conductor with KCS Railroad from which he
retired after 25 years, gleaning hundreds of train stories he has
shared many times over with any and everyone who would listen.
Known as “Pawpaw”, Garry was a family man to his core. He loved
his wife to a fault, as he did his children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Garry also loved his country with all his heart, which was evident in his
daily wardrobe of flag t-shirts and hats. He was a proud American
Veteran.
But above all, Garry loved God. He was a good and decent Chirstian
man who talked often about how good God was to him and his wife.
Garry is preceded in death by his parents, Jack Linscomb and Lillie
Arledge; step-dad Curtis Arledge; and step-mother Lillian Linscomb.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 28 years Wanda

great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
We were so sorry to receive this news. We only met this wonderful couple in April of this year at our family doctor’s office. The spirit that these two people exhibited was amazing. We enjoyed talking to them and hearing part of their life story. Two things stood out fast, first they loved the Lord and second they loved their family. After getting the news in June that my husband was going to loose his foot and part of a leg, Wanda was right there speaking words of encouragement to us. We wanted the family to know how truly sorry we are and let them know they will be in our thoughts and prayers. The Lord will get them through the hurt and give them the strength they need.
