John William Vance

          John William Vance, 77, Glasgow, passed away Friday, May 24, 2024 at his residence.  A native of Barren County, he was the son of the late William Smith Vance and Mary Maxine Rouse Vance.

          John worked many years in the concrete business and was a former assistant manager at IMI concrete.  In recent years, he was an employee of Glasgow Prescription Center’s durable medical equipment department.  He was a US Army Veteran and was a member of the Big Red 1 where he served in the Vietnam Conflict.  He was later awarded a Bronze Star for heroism.  He recently professed his faith in Christ and was saved at Rolling Hills United Baptist Church.

          Survivors include his wife Anita; seven children: Schelly Vance, Beth Walden (J.D.), Johnny Vance (Laura), Shane Vance (Stacy), Brandon Vance (Amanda), Tonya Vincent all of Glasgow, and Drew Saltsman of Hiseville; thirteen grandchildren: Ben Payne, Jesse Payne, Mary Kate Vance, Grady Vance, McKenzie Largent, Kayleigh Vance, Landon Vance, Chase Vincent, Abbie Rhinehart, Chandler Saltsman, Kaleb Saltsman, Logan Walden, and Hunter Walden; one brother: James Harvey Vance (Terri) of Lexington; one aunt: Joyce Hood (Dascal) of Alvaton; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Brenda Alexander of Glasgow and Faye Neely of Cookeville, TN, and nephew Michael Eugene Cox II.

          The family wishes to give special thanks to T J Samson Hospice for the great care extended to John over the last month.

          Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.  Burial with military honors provided by Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV will be in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Tuesday and continue Wednesday morning at the funeral home.  Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Shanti Niketan Hospice Home or a favorite charity.
