Dan Kinslow
Dan Lewis Kinslow, 92, went to his Heavenly home on December 2, 2024 after a brief stay at the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home. He was born in Etoile, Kentucky on July 10, 1932, the son of Thomas Petty and Retta Burgess Kinslow.
While Dan was known by his family as a loving son, husband, brother, father and PaPa, he was best known by the community for his servant heart. He ran one of the last full service stations in Glasgow. Dan was well respected for being honest and having an old-fashioned “pay when you can” system. He started working in the service station business in 1951 at Standard Oil on the corner of North Race and Front Street, leasing the station in 1957 and becoming the business manager. In 1967, he leased the Chevron station at the corner of Happy Valley and US-31E, proudly serving customers at Kinslow Chevron until retiring in 2006 at the age of 74. Faithful customers could always depend on seeing his friendly face ready to pump gas, clean windshields, or check oil and tires. In addition to working at the station 6-7 days a week, he was also available nights, weekends, and holidays through his 24-hour wrecker service. When he wasn’t serving customers, you could find him in Etoile on his family’s cattle farm.
His legacy will be carried on by his daughter, Beth Harbison (David), and son Kirby Kinslow, both of Glasgow; four grandchildren, Blake Harbison (Kelly), Megan Broady (Cole), Cassie Feese (Gabe), Michael Harbison (Breanna); eight great grandchildren, Latcher and Lane Harbison, Keiley and Kinlyn Ferguson, Kye, Kayne, and Knox Broady, and Porter Feese. He is also survived by his two sisters, Virginia Ann Bruton (Bill), and Sandra Alexander (Kenny), as well as several nieces and nephews and his special caregiver, Lisa Shirley.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of almost 60 years, Virginia Atkinson Kinslow, their son, Thomas Michael Kinslow, and their granddaughter, Chelsey Dawn Kinslow.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 6, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home with burial at the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, and on Friday from 9:00 until time for the service.
Dan’s family would like to express their sincerest appreciation for the outstanding care that he received during his final days. Therefore, alternate expressions of sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home, 1020 Glenview Drive, Glasgow, KY 42141.
Dan was always good to me.
The memories of stopping at Dan’s to get gas. That was during the good ole days of the gas attendant pumping your gas, washing your windshield, and talking to the customers. As a little girl I remember peeking his head in the window and speaking to ky brothers and me. Most times he gave us a piece of bubblegum.
