Charles Curtis “Buck” Jones, 84
Loving husband of Elizabeth “Libby” Jones and father of J.C. of Clearwater, FL, Tom (Mary) of Richmond, Chuck (Kim) of Bowling Green, and Curt (Pam) of Louisville, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.
A graduate of Glasgow High School, where he was an all-state football player, he attended and played football at Centre College and joined the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1942, where he served for 23 years as a fighter pilot. While in the Air Force, he held the trans-Atlantic air speed record and was a Korean War veteran. He retired as a Lt. Colonel from the USAF in 1965. Upon returning to Glasgow, he was employed by Mallory and was later the owner and operator of Modern Food Mart.
He was a Sunday school teacher, Elder, and Board Member at the First Christian Church of Glasgow. This avid card player and UK sports fan was happiest at the Bridge table or when watching his beloved Wildcats.
Buck was the youngest of five children and was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis L. and Bess Edmund Jones, sisters Maynard Jackson Hatter, Judy Jones Meador, Betty Jones Doyle, and brother John W. Jones. He was known as “Pop” to his seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Amanda, Gina, Meredith, and Whitney Jones and Meggan and Andrew Zena.
Services will be held Saturday, February 24 at 2:00 pm CT, at the First Christian Church of Glasgow, KY with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, February 23, at Hatcher-Saddler Funeral Home in Glasgow and after 1:00 pm Saturday at the church.
Military honors will be provided by the honor guard from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
