Betty M. Akins
October 30, 1937 ~ July 14, 2012
Betty M. Akins, Glasgow, died Saturday, July 14, 2012, at her residence after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. Born October 30, 1937 in Metcalfe County, she was the daughter of the late Hermon and Maureen Lane Jewell. She was the widow of Waymon Akins who preceded her in death in 2008. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include one daughter, Anita Meek and husband, Joe of Glasgow; one granddaughter, Amy Cantine and husband Matt of White House, TN; two brothers, Randell Jewell of Center and Bill Jewell (Ruth Ann) of Hardyville; 6 nieces; 3 nephews.
In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Roy and Ora Gibson Akins.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Bowles Cemetery near Center. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
I have such sweet memories of Betty. She was a dear friend to my Mama for many many years and she and Waymon meant a lot to our family. Always ready with a smile and cheerful thought, she will be dearly missed. Heaven just gets a little sweeter as time moves on. Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Your mom was a beautiful lady and a true friend to my Nana. I know that you and she shared a wonderful life. I’m sure that your heart is full of so many lovely memories that God will bring to mind to help you say goodbye to your sweet mama.
