Amanda Ruth Compton, 79, Glasgow, died Friday, May 19, 2006, at the NHC Health Care Center.  A native of Barren County, she was a daughter of the late Grace Word and Benjamin Ray Smith.  She was a former employee of Handmacher Fashions and retired from Tyson Bearing in Glasgow.  She was a member of the Temple Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Billy Compton of Glasgow; two grandsons, Adam Compton and wife, Nicole, and Benjamin Compton of Bowling Green; three great-grandchildren, Anni Compton, Aiden Compton and Presley Compton; three sisters, Marie Jenkins of Indianapolis, Ann Bunch and husband, Buford, and Joyce Coulter and husband, Junior, of Glasgow; three brothers, John David Smith and wife, Ruby Nell, of Glasgow, Robert Smith and wife, Etta Mae, and Lennie Ray Smith and wife, Dicie, of Indiana; a sister-in-law, Betty Jo Smith of Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John William Compton, Sr.; one brother, George B. Smith; one sister, Margaret Helen Smith; one sister-in-law, Mildred Smith; and one brother-in-law, Thomas Howard Jenkins.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2006, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens.  Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
