Jane Abell Mattingly, 82, of Glasgow, died Monday, March 12, 2007 at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Richard Edward Abell and Emma Robinson Abell co-owners of the Rubel-Abell Hardware Co. in Lebanon, KY. She assumed the typical roles of an army officer’s wife during her husband’s active duty tours in Korea, Ft. Bliss, TX the Pentagon and Ft. Knox, Ky among other locations. Prior to raising a family she worked for the Southern Continental telephone company (Contel). She was a member of Saint Helens Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband: Colonel Herbert B. Mattingly, Sr. U. S. Army, Ret. ; three sons: Herbert B. Mattingly, Jr. of Glasgow, Edward Albert Mattingly of Webster, Texas and Charles C. Mattingly and his wife Beth of Knoxville, TN; three daughters: Ann Bertrand of Glasgow, Mary Elliott and her husband Tommy of Glasgow and Sue M. Smith and her husband James of Columbia, Kentucky; seven grandchildren: Laura B. Johnson and her husband John, Teresa Bertrand, Robert “Bobby” Bertrand, III, Brookes Mattingly, Sabel Mattingly, Emma Mattingly and Brittain Mattingly. Also several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by eight sisters: O’Dele Thompson, Anna Justine Drye, Agnes Pettus, Edward Marie Barry, Cora Spalding, Teresa Durrett, Ann Abell and Emma Gray; one brother: Richard Lawrence.
Funeral will be 11:00 A. M. Eastern Daylight Savings Time Friday March 16, 2007 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Lebanon, Kentucky with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 2:00 P.M. Central Daylight Savings Time Thursday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home and after 10:00 A. M. Eastern Daylight Savings Time Friday at St. Augustine Catholic Church. There will be a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.
