Edward Jewell Gass, Sr., 74, Glasgow, died Monday, March 08, 2010, at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. A native of Barren County, he was a son of the late Frank and Lissia Dugard Gass. He was the owner and operator of Glasgow Trim and Upholstery for 50 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the VFW Post 5906 in Glasgow, a charter member of the Barren River Rod and Gun Club and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Gass; three children, Edward J. “Pete” Gass, Jr., Jacqueline Sue Jones and John Miller Gass; three grandchildren, Michael Nichols, Brandon Williams and Derek Wayne Jones; one great-grandchild, Somara Jones, all of Glasgow; five sisters, Edna Breitenfeld and husband, Duane, Lee Ann Kirn and husband, Joe, Barbara Dugard and Carolyn Anderson and husband, Talbert, all of Glasgow, and Brenda Judd of Louisville; two brothers-in-law, Haskal Ray Stephens of Bowling Green, and Mitchell (Billie) Stephens of Alvaton; one sister-in-law, Aline (Jack) Mattingly of Cave City; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, William Gass, Paul “P.G.” Gass, Sr., and Jerry Wayne Gass.

Mr. Gass chose cremation. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the VFW Post 5906. Military honors will be provided by Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV.  Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to VFW Post 5906. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.

    Elsie, I’m sorry that I didn’t make the painful walk back to see ED when you asked me at the hospital. Then again I can now remember him as I knew him. I didn’t realize that the Memorial service was the last chance for closure or would have made an attempt to be there. We will miss Ed and his shop. If there is anything you need that we are capable of doing or full filling just give us a call. You have our sincere condolences.
