Oscar Lee Carter, Jr., 80, of Glasgow, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. A native of Cumberland County, he was a son of the late Oscar Lee Carter, Sr. and Minnie Wray Carter. He was a carpenter and farmer, who enjoyed gardening, hunting, trapping, and bluegrass and gospel music. He was a member and song leader of Neal’s Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. In his later years, he enjoyed watching his purple martin friends.
Survivors include his wife Inez; two daughters, Pam Connally and husband, Thad, of Bowling Green, and Paula Coomer and husband, Michael, of Glasgow; two grandchildren, Jarrod Connally and Megan Connally; two brothers, Lonnie (Betty) Carter of Burkesville and Homer (Francis) Carter of Glasgow; two sisters, Nelda Cash (Arden) of Burkesville and Minnie Belle Thurman (Alden) of Gas City, IN; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Jr. was a great friend and a wonderful neighbor. We will miss him.
