In reading through the messages for Scottie, it is so evident of the high regard in which he was held by so, so many persons across the state of Kentucky. It is especially heart-warming to see the comments of those officers whose lives he has impacted, and perhaps save, through his training skills. His cheerful spirit, positive outlook, and courage during his illness is an inspiration for all of us. He was just a great guy.
My heartfelt sympathy and prayers go to his family.

Scottie served as my Class Coordinator, Class #302, at DOCJT. During my time at the Academy, whether in Basic Training or over the years during various inservice trainings, Scottie would always take the time to say hello and talk as time would allow in all our hectic schedules. My sincere condolences to his family and friends in their loss.
Linda…my heart is broken for you…Scottie was a very special person to me. Tracy and Scott send their love. See you tomorrow at the funeral.

Scottie will be missed. I had the good fortune to work with him for a short time at DOCJT. He was a wonderful person who gave his all to the law enforcement community of Kentucky. Rest in peace old friend.
I had the honor of meeting Scottie when we both went through the Richmond-Madison County Leadership program in 2004. He was a great comfort to me during the program, as I was the youngest. Scottie just would smile and keep me company. We enjoyed many laughs together and his love for the community was evident even back then. He made Madison County aware of equality issues to where it was forced to discuss them. Please know how sorry I am to Scottie’s family and friends, you will be in my thoughts.
He did make a difference in so many peoples lives…his legacy will continue,he loved his dogs, his bees, his family, his friends, his job, and the many groups that he was a part of…we had sooo much fun together!…He was pure and loving! ( my cranky friend who I liked to play with after long meetings with Richmond city officials) the battle is not over… I will keep the memory of our last encounter ..looking for the forgetful dog and waiting for some friends to go out for dinner Scottie ,having difficulty walking, because the leg was swelling..He was still hopeful, a true fighter, an inspiration to us all. I love you amigo .. here and there …
I served with scottie on the Kentucky native American heritage commission for several years. our lifepaths crossed later in both our lives, and in a very particular context.
and I will never forget him. for it is not the amount of time that you spend with a person; it is the kind of time you spend.
committed, smart, creative, friendly, reliable. wonderful. that was scottie.
I do believe in my heart of hearts that scottie knew we will get the job done, that his dream of offering a burial site protection workshop through ky law enforcement will not go unrealized, that the funding will come through eventually.
we will find a way to recognize him each time we do the workshop. but without him. and that is a loss for us all.
a single person, a certain special individual, can change the world.
he left us far too soon. he had so many plans to make the future a better place.
we will take up his work.
