Bruce Elliott Simmons, 63, died Saturday, June 18, 2016 at his home in Louisville, KY. He was born September 1, 1952 in Pensacola, FL. He graduated Glasgow High School, Glasgow, KY, and earned BAs in History and Print Journalism and an MA in Secondary Education from Western Kentucky University. He worked for over 13 years as a teacher of English, language arts and social studies for both junior and high school students. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by his mother, Judith S. Simmons, Bowling Green, KY; brothers Jeffrey Simmons, Scottsville, KY and Neil Simmons (Rebecca Layton), Louisville, KY; sister Merrill Simmons, Louisville, KY; and his companion Cheryl Reagan, Jeffersonville, IN. He is also survived by his aunts Mary Campbell, Bowling Green, KY and Tinker Simmons, Louisville, KY; nephews Hunter Simmons, Bowling Green, KY and Thomas Simmons, Louisville, KY; niece Samantha Simmons, Louisville, KY. He was predeceased by his father Joseph C. Simmons, Glasgow, KY.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – Noon, followed immediately by a memorial service at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 1100 North Race Street, Glasgow, KY on Saturday, July 30, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Christian Care Communities or the Kentucky Humane Society.
I am so sorry to hear of Bruce’s passing. He was such a good friend. I was thinking about him just the other day. I will miss him a lot. If its possible I would like to talk to Mrs. Simmons, my number is 270-404-1351.
