James H. Garrett
May 9, 1919 ~ June 7, 2016
James H. Garrett, 97, Glasgow, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at NHC Healthcare in Glasgow. He was the last of nine children of Henry Clay and Kate Stout Garrett. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Temple Hill Baptist Church, and a U. S. Army Veteran of WWII.
His wife of almost 60 years, Dorothy Opal Garrett, and his son Jimmy Darrell Garrett, both preceded James in death on June 3, 2016. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Vera Kingrey Garrett; a great-grandson: Justin Wilkerson; four brothers: Samuel, Elvin, Ben, and Wilmer Garrett; and four sisters: Minnie Garrett, Lennie Bruton, Emogene Grizzle, and Lula Jenson.
Survivors include one son Wayne Garrett and wife Cindy of Temple Hill; two step-daughters: Ruby Carver and Gertie Hodges of Glasgow; eight grandchildren: Kim Lambert, Reeca Carver, Todd Hodges, Tony Hodges, Amy Hammer, Anissa Pendleton, Billy Carver, Jr., and Ashley Wood; 15 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home. Burial with military honors provided by Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV will be in the Poplar Log Cemetery. Visitation will begin 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
