Dora Louise Settle Boling
April 16, 1921 ~ July 13, 2018
Ms. Dora Louise Settle Boling of Bowling Green passed away peacefully on Friday morning, July 13th, 2018, at her home. Her sons, Ross and Mark, were by her side. Her 97 years were informed and guided by her deep and abiding generosity of love and spirit; an unending and unconditional kindness to all and especially the underdog; and a gloriously stubborn insistence on doing the right thing regardless of time, place, circumstance, or consequence. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends to whom she was devoted and who cherished her for her quick wit and boundless compassion. To her beloved sons, she was their first, and best, teacher.
Ms. Boling was born in Glasgow in 1921 and graduated from Glasgow High School. She worked for the Farmers Home Administration for 40 years and retired in 1980. She started at the FHA after graduating from high school. It was the only place she ever worked.
She was a proud member of The First Christian Church of Bowling Green.
After years of mentoring and watching her sons play tennis, retirement gave her the opportunity to play and become highly skilled in the sport she loved and that both of her sons excelled at both at the high school and college levels.
Ms. Boling was preceded in death by parents John Wooten and Virgie Collins Settle, brother John and grandson Bradley Ross Boling. She is survived by her son Ross (Beverly) and their sons, Clint, Jack and Mario of Laredo, Texas; and Mark (Michele) of Bowling Green; and their son, Chris, of Nashville, Tennessee; sister-in-law Virginia Bertram Settle and her children Bert Settle, Susan Lewis, and Lt. Colonel Blake Settle.
A graveside service was held at the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery on Tuesday, July 17, 2018.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to First Christian Church, 1106 State Street, Bowling Green, Kentucky, 42101.
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Dora. I had not seen her in several years. I’m sure you do not know me but I am a niece by marriage of Uncle Ross Settle. His wife, Bessie, was my aunt, my fathers sister. Uncle Ross was a brother to Dora’s dad, John Wooten.
I was not aware of her passing until I saw the death announcement in the paper. Our thoughts and prayers will be with the family.
