William Robert Speer
July 16, 1940 ~ June 24, 2021
William Robert Speer, 80, of Glasgow, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021 at his residence. The son of the late Robert Marcus and Lillie Dale Carrithers Speer, “Bill” was a loving, dedicated, and beloved friend, father, grandfather, and husband. A gentle-hearted man with an unending spirit, Bill lived life to its greatest capacity finding immense joy and humor in even the smallest of life’s conventions. His greatest passion and proudest possession was the time he spent with family. He never met a stranger. He was kind, warm, and compassionate. He likely invented “dad jokes.” He was a giant of a man that was admired deeply and beloved greatly. He lived, loved, and served his family and heavenly Father with an unparalleled zeal. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to farm, hunt, fish and most any activity that allowed him close communion with family and God’s creations. He was singular and a true gift to all who were blessed to know him. Bill retired from International Harvester Company in Louisville and Charles T. Mitchell CPA in Frankfort. He served his country as a veteran of the National Guard, and was a member of the South Green Street Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife: Rebecca Wright Speer; his son: Robert “Tim” Speer; his daughters: Sandra Dale Speer and Rebecca Suzanne Morris (son-in-law: Jeffrey); grandchildren: Stefan Rudic and Emily Rose Rudic; two sisters: George Ann Holeman and Betty Morrow; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial at Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 11:00 am Tuesday at the funeral home until time for services.
