Mavis Maylene Sneed

          Mavis Maylene Sneed, born February 1, 1930, departed this life January 20, 2023.  She was the third child born to the late Welby and Bessie Gibson Fields.  On December 20, 1945, she married James Austin Sneed and to this union was born two daughters, Glenda Sue and Tammy Annette.

          In July 1950, she was saved at an old fashion tent revival in Sparksville, Kentucky.  She joined Sparksville Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Basil Chapel United Baptist Church where she attended and remained a member until her health started to decline.  She also attended Rolling Hills United Baptist Church.  She was a retired seamstress from Handmacher Fashions in Glasgow where she worked for 22 years.  She was also an avid quilt maker and doll collector.

          Mavis was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years on March 6, 2015.  Also preceding were her parents, three sisters, Mary Rigdon, twins Barbara and Bobbie Fields; two brothers: Marvin Fields and Billy Fields; Grandparents John and Mary Gibson and Rev. Elijah and Louvada Fields; one son-in-law Eugene Wood; and one former son-in-law, David Dennison.

          Survivors include her daughters Glenda Sue Wood and Tammy Annette Mosby and her husband Tim all of Glasgow; four grandchildren: Marsha Gentry and husband Michael of Cave City, Sherry Maxwell and husband Eugene Maxwell of Colorado Springs, CO, Carissa Uptegraff of Glasgow, and Shane Wood and wife Jessica of Louisville; five great-grandchildren: Emily Houchens and husband Brent of Glasgow, Andrew Gentry and fiancée Chasey Jessie of Lexington, Peyton Maxwell of Savannah, GA, Ben Maxwell of Lexington, and Hunter Uptegraff of Glasgow; several nieces, nephews, and friends.  Her caregivers, Heather Hammon, Peggy Furlong, and special long-time caregiver Sandy Houk.

          Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial beside her husband in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
