Bob Hughes
On Thursday June 1st Robert Dean “Bob” Hughes peacefully entered into the eternal house of God.
He was born in Sioux City, Iowa on June 27th, 1943 to the late Maxwell Dean Hughes and Erna Dirks Hughes. Bob grew up in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa where he was valedictorian of his high school graduating class. He attended the University of Iowa before enlisting in the United States Air Force. Bob later attended Western Kentucky University where he earned a bachelor of science in accounting.
Bob worked in accounting for a variety of manufacturing companies including Vanguard Labs, Belden Wire & Cable. and retired from Kapstone Paper & Packaging.
Bob loved to sing and was gifted with a beautiful voice. He used his gift to bring joy to the surrounding community through the Caveman Barbershop Chorus, of which he was a member for over 40 years. He loved to watch sports and was an avid fan of basketball, most notably, University of Kentucky basketball. Bob worshiped at First Presbyterian Church of Glasgow where he served as an Elder and led the hymns for the congregation. Bob loved and cherished spending time with his family.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years; Patty Ann Hughes of Glasgow, KY; two daughters, Sondra Norman(Randy) of Dixon, KY; Kelly Hogue(Aaron) of Nicholasville, KY; one son, Stephen Hughes(Mindy) of Glasgow, KY; one sister, Bonnie Rosa of Brick, New Jersey; nine grandchildren, Brandy Dayekh, Brandon Lewis, Dylan Veach, Clay Hogue, Jenna Hogue, Kate Hogue, Susanna Hogue, Max Hughes, Ann Hughes; 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 8th at First Presbyterian Church in Glasgow, KY, with interment to follow at Marrowbone Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
Visitation is Wednesday, June 7th, 4-8 p.m., and Thursday, 8:00 a.m. until time for service time at 11:00 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church. The family would like expressions of sympathy to be sent to First Presbyterian Church of Glasgow – Memorial Fund or the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.
