Lazar C. Beaty
Lazar Carl Beaty, age 88, of Glasgow, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 28, 2023, at the Barren County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born November 5, 1934 in Waverly, FL, to the late Carl Lee and Evelyn Davis Beaty. He graduated from Lake Wells High School in 1952. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy. During his 21 years of service in the United States Navy, he was a Korean Conflict and Vietnam Era Veteran. During that time, he served on the Destroyer USS Hale, Aircraft Carrier USS Midway, USS F.D. Roosevelt, and finally retired from the USS Saratoga in 1973.
Upon retiring, he moved his family from Jacksonville Fl. to Munfordville KY, in 1975. Soon after arriving in Munfordville, he and his brother started a small family restaurant in Hart County. In 1981 Lazar had an opportunity to move to Glasgow and became a partner in a new restaurant, “Western Sizzlin Steakhouse”; it soon became a favorite for many in and around Glasgow and Barren County.
Lazar proudly served his country, but he also served his Lord and his church. Lazar was ordained as a Deacon in 1965 in Nevada, and served as a deacon at every church where he was a member. He was a member of the Glasgow Baptist Church and served as a Deacon and active member of the Trailblazers senior group. Lazar loved his church and church family. Lazar was active in the community and enjoyed his time Christmas shopping for children, and sharing many jokes in the Kiwanis Club, where he was a member for over 30 years. Lazar was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 1982.
Lazar’s military life took him to many communities across the United States, and everywhere he lived, his personality and sense of humor won people over. One thing that Lazar loved to do more than laugh, was to make people laugh with him. Whether it was playing Santa Claus for the Cub Scouts in Jacksonville, Fla., or the joke teller at the Kiwanis Clubs in Glasgow, KY. He was always there making people laugh and putting a smile on your face. Lazar will be truly missed.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Blevins Beaty, whom he married in1956 till her passing in 2000; three brothers, Harold, Rodney, and Edward Beaty; son-in-law, Barry Ferren.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Hamilton Beaty; two daughters, Suzette Ferren, and Roxanne Pierce (David); son, Kevin Beaty (Lisa) all of Glasgow; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Morris (Wes) of Murfreesboro, TN, Justin Beaty (Jaeden Stephens), and Luke Pierce both of Glasgow; great-grandchildren, Kaydence, Grady, and Lucy Morris; three stepchildren, eight step grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral service will be 1:00pm Friday, September 1st at the Glasgow Baptist Church. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00pm Thursday at the Glasgow Baptist Church and on Friday morning from 9:00am until time for service at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Glasgow Baptist Church or to Glasgow Kiwanis Club. Arrangements entrusted to Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.

I loved Uncle Lazar. And he was always good for a laugh. He enjoyed life. He raised 3 wonderful kids who have wonderful families of their own. Man, could he cook! For an army. He had such a vibrant personality. He will be greatly missed. My condolences go out to his family.
