Virginia Houchens

          Virginia Glass Houchens, age 89 of Austin, Kentucky passed away at her home on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.  Virginia was born on June 20, 1934 to the late Herbert and Ruth Reeves Glass.  She was a retired culinarian at Barren River State Park and a member of the Mount Olivet Missionary Baptist Church at Austin.

          Survivors include one son, Michael Dee Houchens (Sandy) of Austin; one daughter, Ruth Ann Howell (Richard) of Glasgow; a son-in-law, Billy McDonald of Fountain Run; seven grandchildren: Kimberly Irwin (Chris) of Glasgow, Daniel Bragg, Tinishia Napier (Jeremy), and Waylon Houchens (Wynter) all of Austin, Candace Renn (Josh) and Shana Kaye Thompson (Michael) all of Indiana, and Christy Marion (Todd) of Bowling Green; one sister, Barbara Williams; sixteen great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Willie Dee Houchens; a daughter Janice Carol McDonald; a brother Jimmy Glass; and a sister Louise Williams.

          Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Caney Fork Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to T J Samson Hospice.
