Carlton Botts
William Carlton Botts of Glasgow, KY, born March 27, 1944, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, one day short of his 80th birthday.
Carlton was the son of John Carlton Botts and Margaret Jewell (Meek) Botts. He graduated from Hiseville High School in 1962 and began working for his father’s construction company. Afterwards, he started a new career with Strader’s Dairy, which later transitioned into Flav-o-rich. Carlton’s farm was always his favorite job and pastime. He married Anne Bruce Strader in December 1963, and together they raised three sons: John Strader, Jeffrey Carlton, and James Bruce.
Carlton was a coach for the Eastern Elementary Little League and a Board Member of the East Barren Volunteer Fire Department. Carlton was instrumental in his community and loved to work alongside his neighbors on their farms. Church was always a vital part of Carlton’s life, and he enjoyed serving in all the congregations he was a member of through the years. Glasgow Baptist has been his home church the past 27 years. He and Anne Bruce especially enjoyed their role in assisting with baptisms.
His passion later in life was his Grandchildren, his Great-Grandchildren and riding his Kubota around his farm and neighborhood. Carlton will be remembered for his warm personality, his sense of humor, and giving the best hugs this side of heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Marney Nunnally; and sister-in-law, Jo Brent Elmore.
He is survived by his wife Anne Bruce Strader Botts; his sons: John Strader Botts (Donna), Jeffrey Carlton Botts (Missy), and James Bruce Botts; his six grandchildren: Jenna Rebecca Botts, William Jacoby Botts, Whitney Botts Crabtree (Blake), Jeffrey Hunter Botts (Paige), Makayle James Lee (Hunter), and Annabelle Lenae Botts; four great-grandchildren: Olivia, Wade, Nash, and Knox; two sisters: Joyce Nunnally and Sherrlyn Duvall (Paul); one brother, Gary Botts (Janice). Carlton is also survived by his Aunt Earline Turner (Clay); brother-in-law, John Ray Elmore; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2024 at the Glasgow Baptist Church with burial in the New Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be after 9:00 a.m. Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to New Salem Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Botts Walker, 1633 New Salem Road, Glasgow, KY 42141; or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements entrusted to Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.
Carlton was a fine man. He will be missed by everyone in the community. Prayers for the entire family.
