Christiane Monin
Christiane Monin died February 7, 2024. She lived in Center, KY in the home she designed and built with her husband, William J. (Bill) Monin, who died in 2011.
Christiane was born on July 23, 1942 in Germany. She was gifted with language, and worked as a foreign language correspondent, travelling the world in that work. She enjoyed an active life, from skiing in the Alps in younger days to traveling and maintaining a lovely garden at home.
She relocated from Munich to Louisville in 1983 and completed a degree in Design at the University of Louisville. Christiane took great pride in creating a classically beautiful home with understated elegance. She was an accomplished chef, and converted many guests to her viewpoint that a goose anchored the finest Christmas feasts.
Christiane and Bill moved to Center to build a home on the Little Barren River in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy. They enjoyed the welcoming kindness of their new community, and spent the remainder of their days as stewards of their land and the wildlife that thrived there. Christiane remained active and proud of her garden and her home until the end of her life. She is remembered in equal measures as kind, fearless and determined.
An informal family memorial will be held in the Smith’s Grove Cemetery, Smith’s Grove, KY on October 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Friends are invited to attend.
Remembrances can be made to The Nature Conservancy of Kentucky. Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home is Assisting Family with arrangements.
