Bobby Dawsey

d. July 13, 2024

Bobby Dawsey, 83, Glasgow, passed away July 13, 2024 at Hospice Care, T J Samson Hospital after a brief illness.  He was born September 28, 1940 at Lucas, KY to the late Delton and Jane Dawsey.

Bobby was raised a farm boy and spent many, many long hours working the land.  His schooling was at Allen County High School; then having moved to Glasgow in 1955, he graduated Glasgow High School in 1958.

During the Vietnam War, the draft was in progress.  Each month several thousand men would be called to duty.  Each month we waited.  Just a few days before becoming too old, and because we had no children, the draft called on the 18 th day of July, 1966.  He chose to join the Air Force.  Of course, basic training was a Lackland AFB, Texas then on to Sheppard AFB, Texas for further training.  At Hickam AFB, Hawaii, he was assigned to a reciporatory engine technician squad.  Then in 1967, he cross-trained for a jet engine technician position.  He completed a jet engine course thru the University of Alabama and was given the position to train a squad of 60+ airmen to ready the C-130 aircraft engine for duty. The C-130 aircraft was the vital source for the soldiers there on the battlefield bringing them much needed food, ammunition, and supplies. H loved to keep those engines running.  In 1969, he was transferred to Tyndal AFB, Florida and was promoted to Staff Sergeant where he spent the remainder of his 4 year tour.

Then home to Glasgow and Barren County to once again become a farmer; he loved the good earth.  The last seventeen years, he also was a rural letter carrier out of Park City, KY.  He loved to hunt and fish; made many elk hunting trips to Colorado; and was fortunate enough to bring one home.  Dale Hollow was his favorite fishing place; he loved it in the wintertime when the moon was right.  He kept his freezer full of good eating, especially Walleye.  He shared his life with his wife Margie.  They worked hand in hand to make life easier and better.  For better or worse, till death do us part, now, it has.

He is survived by his wife Margie Dawsey; his sister, Marla Dawsey Basil and her husband Danny Joe; one nephew, Scott Basil and his wife Renae Basil; one great-nephew, Cyrus Basil; and a brother-in-law, David Alexander of Lakeland, Florida.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pauletta Dawsey in 1962.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.  Burial with military honors provided by Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV will be in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  Expressions of sympathy may be made to Kosair for Kids of your favorite charity.
