Bobby L. Word

d. December 24, 2024

Bobby Lew Word, 78, Scottsville, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at the Medical Center at Bowling Green.  A native of Glasgow, he was the son of the late Murray and Vera Garrett Word.

Bobby was a notorious jokester.  He loved being able to tell his friends a good joke and he usually had one at the ready.  He was a lover of music; and the louder, the better.  Bobby loved to travel and was a sports enthusiast whether it was watching his granddaughter play softball or watching UK Basketball.  In recent years, he could be found working out at The CORE in Scottsville.  Even with all these attributes, he was dedicated to his chosen profession which began in his late teens when he was hired as an orderly at T J Samson Community Hospital.  From there, he moved to the physical therapy department; eventually becoming a Rehab Tech in the department from which he retired after 50 years of service.  Bobby was totally humbled when he would oftentimes be thanked by someone he had treated, or possibly their family member, for the extreme care and concern he had shown to them. He was a member of the Park Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Patty Jo Word; one son, Randy Word (Robyn) of Santa Clarita, California; one step-daughter, Karen Meador (Steve) of Scottsville; five step-grandchildren: Emily Hogan (Chris) of Louisville, Stephanie Hood (Bradley) of Scottsville, Alisa Gertner of Pittsburgh, Kyle Gertner of San Diego, and Eric Gertner of Denver; four step-great-grandchildren: Wyatt Hogan and Xavier Hogan of Louisville, and Cannon Hood and Cruz Hood of Scottsville; three sisters: Mary Word of Park City, Linda Jo Matthews of Glasgow, and Tammi Word of Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 30, 2024 at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Cosby Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and continue Monday morning at the funeral home.  Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Gideons International.
