Lena Elizabeth Birge Crabtree, 83, Glasgow, passed away peacefully Monday, November 4, 2024. A native of Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late Ora and Annie Pitcock Birge.
In her early years, Lena attended and was saved at the Oak Grove Baptist Church and later attended Friendship Baptist Church. She was a fiercely strong-willed and hardworking woman. Lena’s life was a testament to determination and devotion to her family. A lover of the outdoors, Lena could often be found working in her flower garden. She raised Boer goats for several years which was a joy to her. She was an avid fan of UK basketball; but her greatest joy came from spending time with her great-grandchildren. Lena worked at Sears in Glasgow where she enjoyed talking with her customers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William Wayne (Billy) Crabtree; a sister Wilma Jean Jessie; and a baby brother.
Survivors include her daughter Maretta Lindsey (Ronnie); her grandchildren: Josh Pierce (Chelsea) and Sarah Pierce; her great-grandchildren: Laken Pierce, Ezra Pierce, Lena Pierce, and Molly Pierce; her siblings: Wanda Faye McGuire (Carl), Louise Proffitt, and William Birge (Mary Lou); along with several nieces and nephews.
A service honoring Lena’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home followed by burial in the Union #2 Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
