Ruth Scott Bradford

d. December 29, 2023

Ruth Scott Bradford, age 100, passed away peacefully Friday morning, December 29th, 2023, being sung home by her family.

Born Beulah Ruth Scott to Lucien and Alice Scott of Center, Kentucky, Mrs. Ruth was the youngest of three children.  She grew up in Center (gathering stories she would relate to her children in the coming years) and remained there until she left to attend David Lipscomb College in 1940.  There she met and married her husband of 52 years, Robert William Bradford, Sr.  Robert went on to become “Brother Bob,” preaching for churches in Alabama, Indiana, and Kentucky.  In Kentucky, before retiring, he served as minister for the South Green Street, Richardsville, and Dry Fork congregations of the churches of Christ.  Mrs. Ruth made each place a home for her husband and children, blessing them and all those around her.

After the passing of Brother Bob in 1994, Sister Ruth continued living in Horse Cave, before moving to the Highland Ridge Apartments in Glasgow.  In recent years, as her health and mobility declined, she was a resident at Barren County Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center.  She loved the staff, and was loved by them in return.

Sister Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Robert William, Sr., and her eldest son, Robert William, Jr.  She is survived by her children, Nancy McEntire Bradford (wife of Robert, Jr.)  Karen Brown, Beverly Grubb, Scott Bradford (Janet), Pat Bradford (Nelda), Russell Bradford (Connie), and James Monk; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Center-Asbury Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday and after 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.  Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the South Green Street Church of Christ.
