William Maxwell “Bill” Ritter, 72, Glasgow, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024 at his residence.  A native of Barren County, he was the son of the late James Marvin Ritter and Kathryn Alyce Sharp Ritter.

After graduation from Glasgow High School, Bill attended Western Kentucky University where he earned his Bachelor, Masters, and Rank I degrees.  He was a retired educator with Glasgow City Schools where he was a high school history teacher, followed by serving as Director of Pupil Personnel, and eventually serving a term as superintendent.  Bill had many other varied interests as well.  He served as a guide for more than 20 years at Mammoth Cave National Park.  He and his wife Sharon visited all of Kentucky’s State Resort Parks and in his spare time, he loved to fish, hike, and refinish antique furniture.

Survivors include his wife Sharon; four children: Katy Pierce (Nathaniel) and Corey Ritter of Louisville, Jonathan Ritter (Janet) of Glasgow, and Kelly MacLean (Nate) of Lebanon, TN; three grandchildren: Kolton Pierce, Connor Ritter, and Ella Riley MacLean; one sister, Ramona Ritter-Deher (Albert) of St. Maarten; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Col. James W. Ritter; and two sisters: Judith A. Ritter and Sandra Jo Browning.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
